4:00pm | Mt Eliza Community Hall

100 Canadian Bay RoadMount Eliza VIC 3930

This Sunday at 4pm, the Independents for Mornington Peninsula are hosting a Community Forum focused on climate science, risk and local action.

The past three years have been the hottest on record. At the same time, climate accountability is being rolled back including here on the Peninsula, where the 2022 Climate Emergency Declaration was rescinded and the Climate Management Plan abandoned.

If we want strong local policy, we need informed, engaged communities.

This forum will explore:

  • What the science is telling us

  • How climate risks are assessed

  • Why ongoing research matters

  • What we can do locally to build resilience

Speakers

Sue Barrell

Former Chief Scientist, Bureau of Meteorology

An overview of Australia’s new National Climate Risk Assessment Framework and why it matters for local communities.

Dr Greg Holland

Peninsula Climate Alliance

As our own Greg Holland will be presenting alongside locally recognised leaders in climate science, this forum marks an important moment for the Alliance. Dr Holland will speak about the origins, purpose and priorities of the Peninsula Climate Alliance, and how community members can get involved in shaping strong, evidence-based climate action on the Mornington Peninsula.

Cr Max Patton

Mornington Peninsula Shire Council

An update on the Climate Resilience Plan and how community voices can shape it.

Entry by donation. Everyone welcome.

Hosted by the Independents for Mornington Peninsula
